On May 30th 2016, over 60 Alumni and 50 GSIS staff members participated in the Annual Alumni Reunion. It is always a pleasure to meet the brilliant individuals who represent and proudly bear the name of the GSIS Knights.
The 2016 version of the Alumni vs Staff soccer match was an exciting affair that saw the Alumni win in penalty kicks after the match ended in a 2-2 tie. The staff took an early lead when Andrew Ahn hit a 20 meter rocket into the top part of the Alumni goal. Halftime saw the staff hang on to their lead until 2015 alumnus Chanmin Sung scored on an equally impressive long distance strike. The alums took the lead when David Bae, a member of the first graduating class of 2011 scored. As the end of the match neared varsity coach Ryan Dellos calmly scored from inside the box to tie the match 2-2. High drama began as the match remained tied and the winning team had to earn their victory from the penalty spot. Boys assistant coach Jeremy Thomas stood tall in goal, as well as scoring a nerve wracking kick of his own. His strike from the spot was equaled by coach Dellos who nearly took the net off of the post with his drive. However, the alumni prevailed as class of 2012 star, Jonghee Kim intimidated the girls soccer coaches whose kicks were metered above the crossbar. Assistant coach Jean-Loup Francois's wild attempt had little chance of scoring. His effort was matched by his lead coach Darryl Harding whose kick was even further off of the mark. Overall a great spirit was evident as the 25 alums who played had a great time with their former mentors!
Thanks to all those who came out for the reunion. We hope to see you again next year!
