Presenting our GSIS ES chess master, Iakov Oskin grade 5! Iakov won the prestigious KAIAC Chess Tournament organized by TCIS on November 15, 2014. He was un-defeatd in all 7 rounds of play and came out as the clear winner. His remarkable chess strategies brought very strong opponents from SIS, TCIS and YISS to their knees. Chess advisors from other schools like SIS and YISS already knew Iakov even before the start of the tournament as they witnessed his fierce game the past two years. Chess advisors from SIS had nothing but appreciation for all the GSIS players and our little grandmaster Iakov.
The participating chess player on the GSIS team did fairly well. Overall individual rankings of each players have yet to be announced by the organizers, but as far as I remember 5 of our players were in the TOP 10, a huge achievement!
Vishal Srinivasan grade 5, one of our strongest players, said this was his best play at any chess game in his lifetime. Nirvika Gupta grade 4, who started playing chess only a few months ago was able to use her fine strategy and beat her opponent in just 50 seconds in the 4th round. Many of the other players wanted to learn that strategy from her. Kento Takamiya grade 4 said, even though he was not able to speak English and express himself, his game spoke aloud for him and made his opponent quiet.
All the other players did their best and were so highly motivated that they all showed their immediate interest in the next KAIAC tournament to be held on February 2015. I am so excited and proud of these little chess masters. Please congratulate these young students from our chess club (elementary) who are bound to make it big in the chess world in the coming years!
