The music department at GSIS draws a vast majority of students for various ensembles and performance opportunities. All students in grade 6,7, and 8 are exposed to their choice of band, orchestra or choral class which prepares them for ensembles in upper secondary grade levels. A majority of the secondary population at GSIS is involved in choir, band, string orchestra, praise team, jazz ensemble, and other perfomance opportunities. Students in the performing arts program at GSIS have gone into the public area to share their musical talents with the community on a regular basis. The music program begins at the elementary level and continues through grade 12 with IB Music courses and a variety ensembles offered each year. GSIS students also have the opportunity to be a part of MYP music courses from grades 6-12 which prepare them to enter the DP music courses offered at GSIS. Through the MYP, students explore the history, theory, and compositional techniques of traditional Western European style as well as being heavily exposed to music from cultures around the world. Music ensembles, classes, and festival opportunities provide rigor for our music students so they will be well prepared for a future in music in their post high school career.
