The theater arts program produces one multi-performance production during both the Fall and Spring semesters. These performances are offered to GSIS and the surrounding community, and they involve students from elementary, lower secondary and upper secondary. Students have the opportunity to perform as actors, builders, technicians, and stage crew.
Supporting these productions are the courses that lay the foundation for these skills. Acting techniques and basic drama theory are covered in formal drama coursework beginning in lower secondary at the MYP year 1 level. Students learn not only the history and theory of drama, but also the practical skills involved. These skills include characterization, movement, technical theater as well as production processes. Once students have completed the Middle Years Programme, they have the opportunity to pursue drama further through the IB DP Theater Arts program. By the end of their high school career, students have been exposed to a wide enough variety of theater practices to pursue further studies in a post-secondary institute.

DP Theater Arts year 1 and 2
DP program HL/SL
The core of the DP Theater Arts lies in clarity of understanding, critical thinking, reflective analysis, effective involvement and imaginative synthesis—all of which should be achieved through practical engagement in theater. DP Theater YR 1 involves a delivery and mastery of content, skills and criterion. DP Theater YR2 explores theater in the making, theater in the world and theater in performance.
