Students at International Baccalaureate® (IB) World Schools are given a unique, challenging and diverse education.
IB learners are:
The three academic programs in the IB fit together as a developmentally-appropriate series for students to learn. From the youngest learners in the Primary Years Program (PYP,) through the Middle Years Program (MYP,) into the Diploma Program (DP) before matriculation, each of the programs provides a structure of learning that well prepares students to progress through each program and into university. This is one of the major strengths of the IB as a whole – that concept learning and core skills are developed in ever deeper and more complex ways as students grow.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them. Each of the IB's programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.
Schoolwide Learner Objectives:
As an IB Continuum School, GSIS desires that each of our learners exemplify the character traits of the IB Learner
Profile.
Inquirer
We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning through life.
Knowledgeable
We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.
Thinkers
We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.
Communicators
We express ourselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
Principled
We act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.
Open-minded
We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.
Caring
We show empathy, compassion, and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a
positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
Risk-takers
We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.
Balanced
We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives— intellectual, physical, spiritual, and emotional— to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.
Reflective
We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.

Our IB Program students study English, Maths, Sciences, Sports, the Arts (Art & Design, Music), and foreign languages every year. We teach our students – at every age – to become critical thinkers and effective communicators of their ideas and opinions. As a result, they develop habits that last through a lifetime of shaping a better world.
Everyone matters at GSIS. This means every individual is well-known, valued for who they are, and their contribution is recognized and celebrated.
Every student at GSIS, from Pre-K to Grade 12, benefits from the IB curriculum. It promotes curiosity and critical thinking, provides for regular assessments and feedback against standardized criteria, and has been shown to improve students’ performance and provide unmatched preparation for future university studies.
Over 5,000 schools in more than 100 countries have adopted the IB program, recognized widely as the global standard in education.
We were the first IB world school in Korea, and immensely proud to say that our students are offered places at the most prestigious universities around the world, and our graduating classes go on to enjoy happy lives global citizens.
