Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship at GSIS

At GSIS, Digital Citizenship is a foundational element of teaching and learning across all grade levels. We are committed to developing digitally literate and responsible learners who are equipped to engage thoughtfully and positively in an increasingly connected world.

Our approach emphasizes the importance of using technology in ways that are safe, respectful, and purposeful, both within and beyond the school environment. Digital Citizenship education at GSIS is not a one-time event, but an ongoing, embedded practice. Students regularly engage with our digital citizenship lessons through structured learning experiences throughout the year. We believe that consistent touchpoints ensure that Digital Citizenship remains relevant, reflective, and responsive to students’ developmental needs.

Secondary School Expectations

Students in secondary school operate under a Technology Acceptable Use Charter—made available to families at the start of each year—which clearly outlines expectations and responsibilities related to technology use. Faculty and administrators also uphold these agreements, reinforcing a whole-school, community-wide approach to modeling and promoting responsible digital behavior.

Elementary School Foundations

Students in the elementary school are introduced to Digital Citizenship in ways that are developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rooted in strong character formation. Through guided lessons, classroom discussions, and daily practice, our youngest learners are taught how to use technology safely, kindly, and responsibly. Emphasis is placed on:

  • Protecting personal information

  • Communicating respectfully online

  • Balancing screen time

  • Seeking adult support when needed

In partnership with families, we nurture foundational skills that help students understand that their actions online matter.

AI Literacy and Academic Integrity

As part of this commitment—and in keeping with recent Korean law changes—AI usage at GSIS is also a focus. We educate teachers and students in its safe and judicious usage, empowering staff to consider ways to utilize AI as a tool to improve the relevance and effectiveness of their classroom lessons. Further to this, AI misuse, plagiarism, collusion, and academic dishonesty are also intentionally and regularly explained to students, along with the consequences of such practices.

Through this intentional and consistent focus, GSIS ensures that Digital Citizenship is not only taught, but lived—supporting our students in becoming thoughtful, informed, and empowered digital citizens.
