At GSIS, positive and respectful relationships between students and teachers are intentionally cultivated and reflect the school’s strong commitment to student well-being.

GSIS regularly uses Komodo, a recognized student well-being assessment tool, to track and understand students’ social and emotional health throughout the academic year. Insights from this data enable the school to respond thoughtfully and proactively to student needs. Each year, Wellness Month in February highlights the importance of mental health, balance, and healthy lifestyle habits across the entire school community.

Character development at GSIS is shaped by the Character Strong framework, which emphasises the growth of students’ stature, spirit, and personality in line with the school’s Mission Statement. Through this approach, students develop resilience, empathy, leadership, and decision-making skills that support long-term success.

Well-being education begins in the Elementary School with age-appropriate activities and continues in Secondary School through structured homeroom lessons focusing on cyber safety, respectful relationships, and digital responsibility. These programmes help students develop strong interpersonal skills, emotional awareness, and the confidence to make responsible choices. Together, they promote respect, independence, and essential life skills.

To further protect student well-being, GSIS maintains clear expectations around healthy routines. Secondary school teachers are expected not to require homework submissions after 10:00 pm, supporting students in maintaining balance, rest, and family time.

Our school nurses provide support, advice, and health service for injuries or illnesses and advise students, faculty, and staff on health issues with professional knowledge and experience.

Our school nurses are trained and licensed professionals who are committed to the care and well-being of our students and staff.

Students are able to visit the medical room during the school day with permission from a member of staff. The school nurse may provide emergency treatment and escort students to hospital when necessary.

Secondary students are organised into Grade-level homerooms, with the Homeroom Teacher serving as the primary contact for students and parents. These teachers play a key role in helping students adjust to the demands of secondary schooling while monitoring their academic progress and well-being.

Homeroom Teachers work closely with our Social and Emotional Counselors as well as the Two Secondary Assistant Principals and the Secondary Principal, particularly when more complex issues arise. Targeted support is available for those with additional learning or well-being needs.
